I started doing research in computer vision at Tsinghua University and Microsoft Research, Beijing. In grad school, I first worked on positioning in sensor networks and got a Ph.D
in information theory under Prof.
Sahai. I spent a year as a post doctoral researcher in the information theory group
at HP Labs, Palo Alto, and currently work for DE Shaw in New York.
Information Theory
My PhD thesis deals with the delay constrained (anytime) error exponents for streaming source coding.I also did a little bit of research in other aspects of information theory: redundancy rate for block codings and the source coding games. At HP, I worked on image compression and several inforamtion theory problems. Details see my publication page.
Sensor Networks
For my master thesis, I studied the estimation lower bounds for localizations and tracking in sensor networks. I also implemented a localization algorithm to complement the theoretical lower bounds. A very brief summary for my committee.
Computer Vision / Pattern recognition
For my senior thesis, I studied the point pattern matching problem, the thesis is summarized in this paper. I also spent several months at Microsoft Research, Beijing as a visiting student, doing image retrievals.
